Thank you for this article if running a saltwater fish only tank and copper will be used most of the time in the sump would you still recommend choosing the ceramic noodles over the bio balls.

The coating that is applied has to be baked in order for it to be aquarium safe unless it is specially manufactured for tank use. Anything that can take in water will deteriorate over time. A sump is not truly a filter but it can be used to house the filtration systems including mechanical biological filtration media. Ceramic noodles and other biomedia shouldn t break down.
